V

An overhead vision
A gaggle of geese
Church ladies and friends
A honking increase
Hands over my ears
In hopes it will cease
But why should I bother
Their needed release

Single Wide Defenses

I’m cultivating a blackberry thicket
out behind the trailer, so damn thick
it’ll double as a delicious line of defense.
I’ll hoe back the weedy enemies
and prune my bloodthirsty bramble babies
and sing them Johnny Paycheck songs
to make sure the vines grow strong
and cantankerous
and the thorns fill in extra prickly.
I’m plumb serious
about single wide fortification.
And I bet my fruit is sweeter fertilized
with a drop or two
of rich, well-nourished gentrifiyin’ blood.
