Innocence
I heard that some young people
are turning off the big networks
and going around Instagram
posing with giant sunflowers.
That’s why you stole it.
I heard that their poems
are easy on the eyes
and light as whipped air;
general, beautiful, stupid.
That’s why you stole it.
I heard their chubby faces
are so full they still squeak,
but, I heard you read Rimbaud.
You know too much.
That’s why you stole it.
You heard they will be stacking rocks,
undrunk and sorry for themselves;
looking back, legless, unholy,
racing to their prior madness.
That’s why you stole it.

Very enjoyable. I had to reread several times gaining a deeper meaning with each read. Also I had to lookup Rimbaud if I must confess.
“especially, stupid, he persisted
In locking himself up in the latrines
Where he reflected in peace, inhaling deeply” Rimbaud
Thank you!
Thanks, Tony. I like all these young people getting into poetry! When did you write your first poem?
Decades ago for fun and only recently started again, but it seems that the teenage angst never left and still must be released. The recent writing being policies, process flow and technically correct boring details.
I have to agree with Steve, when I read your work it is like I’m scribbling on walls with a crayon in comparison.
