Summer Storm
Slashes of lightning stab
my dog with fear. He jumps
with each jolt of static
electricity, whimpers
as thunder pounds the sky.
I try to comfort him,
cradling his body,
like a small child, coo
softly as I stroke his head:
Good boy, it’s okay, I’m here.
But he is inconsolable.
Like me
the night you died.

wow, wow, wow. Thanks.
Thank you!
Powerful punch!
What an ending!
Wow that ending!
Oof. That is powerful.
A powerful poem with the strongest of endings. I was in a house when a tornado blew it away. My hound was blown away in his house and came home five weeks later with ptsd that ruled him for the balance of his life.
