Father Jerry on Vacation
His legs, bare and white,
formerly secluded behind black robes,
broadcast their nakedness.
But he shines with a scrubbed wholesomeness
fresh from the shower, new clothes
from a just-opened box, crisp blue shirt,
creased khaki shorts.
His face shines with an Irish- priest
glow, his smile beatific.
A perpetual shimmer surrounds
him. He bestows on all he meets,
praise, enchantment and his full attention.
He’s always someone’s guest
and forever in glamour spots
at peak season. Everyone
yearns to bathe in his glow.
He speaks the words humans
want to hear.
He could charm the skin off a snake.

Every detail contributes to the picture. The last line is amazing.
I agree 100% with Gaby. Awesome.
Quite the punch at the end:
He speaks the words humans
want to hear.
He could charm the skin off a snake.
A wonderful poem with such great lines and a killer ending as usual.
That ending! It’s so percussive and asks you to read the poem again
Having spent six years in a Catholic seminary this sent spines down my.chill.
I just love this poem. You create such a vivid picture. Thank you.
