Claim of Day
Morning folded the moon
three ways, tossing soft
light over the shoulder
of daybreak’s trauma.
Noon set the clouds
on shuffle, wind carving
free-form Rorschach exams
for errant watchers.
Sunset betrayed
us all, dripping layers
of night on the airscape
to cover disruption.
This palette of sleeplessness,
this choking mantle,
this void in me.

I really love this tight and near-perfect poem. The ending is so good.
I love how the emotion is drawn entirely through nature up to the final line.
This is wonderful! Each verse a stand alone poem itself, but when they all come together…BAM! really beautiful.
I have always loved clouds and the second verse is definitely a keeper for cloud watchers! Love the piece.
What vivid and thought-provoking descriptions. Thanks!
I like showing a life through a day, strong ending!
