Necessity is the mother
She sewed a lace doily
to the back of her jeans
jacket because her momma told her
she couldn’t afford to buy
the one she saw in the store
window. It was shaped like a spider
web, and for thirty years she has looked
for a patch shaped like a spider
for the center of the web.

I love poems about fashion. This says so much about her!
I was struck by her determination and how she’s still thinking about embellishing this jacket. Her continued creativity inspired mine. Thank you for commenting!
somethings are worth keeping
Indeed. The jacket is clearly more than a garment – it represents her resourcefulness and creativity and determination and sense of style and so much more. Thank you for commenting!
Made me smile.
Love the image of the spider web, and her continuing to look for its center!
