I Crawled Back in my Mother’s Womb
I crawled back in my mother’s womb
warm and sweet she sang me to sleep,
she wrapped me softly whispered bloom
my dear, you have no need to weep.
I crawled back in my mother’s womb
safe and small her little lamb, I
sensed the calling of the tomb.
My dear, I see the light and I…
I crawled back in my mother’s womb
to go with her I know not where
with glee and ecstasy I came.
My dear, you see you see it too.
I’ve taught you all you need to know
I go…now go.

I love this so much! From the title to the final line. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Thank you Wendy – my husband thought it was ‘creepy!’
Deb – Love the title and the poem! Nice use of dialog and repetition as well.
You grow and grow–your work just gets stronger and stronger. Writing a line that says more than the words relate is I think one of the magical things poets create.
Really like the repeated line: I crawled back in my mother’s womb– and the nuanced shape you give it each return.
This poem isn’t creepy! It’s about not wanting to let go. Love the repetition and the rhythm it creates.
And a sonnet! Nice.
Thanks to all of you for the kind comments – I will be writing about this for the rest of my life.
