Dairy Queen
I came here for the wifi really.
I ordered a breakfast out of guilt
even though wifi service is free.
If I could be
on the lake in a boat that tilts
when you dive from the leaning tree,
I would experience poetry in motion
and write the form of it
in my head.
Instead,
I sit
in Dairy Queen with one notion…

Great poem
DQ: think of it as the place
where you can put your poem in
(…and get breakfast)
Love the lilt of your words. And the subtle rhyming. It works. Thanks.
I like how the ellipses at the end welcomes us forward
“in a boat that tilts/when you dive from the leaning tree” – beautiful! We can’t always have our ideal inspiration spot, but DQ did you well here!
Creativity demands compromise, but I’d love to read of the poetry in motion, such a picture of the waiting boat and the swish of air as the length of man lets gravity do the work.
