Line Drawn
pre-dawn, pre-op arrival
nil per os since midnight
street clothes-deprived
prep commences
two ectomies
bilaterial salpingo oopherectomy
& total hysterectomy
performance to come
by artist daVinci
mechanical manipulator
tiniest of instruments and camera
guided by gynecological oncologist
urine cup thrust into my hand
we need a sample
not sure I have anything left to give
what do you need it for?
pregnancy test
what?
need to make sure you aren’t pregnant
you have got to be kidding
doctor won’t proceed without it
would have to be an immaculate conception
curtain-walled first surgeries
break gray-shadowed silence
titters crescendoing to guffaws
laugh-gathered
we breathe

I love this, Pam! Especially the rhythm in the last stanza. We share that “artist” da Vinci experience since “he” did my hernias. 🙂
Lol– I had forgotten you were acquainted with the srtist known as daVinci!
Made me laugh. I’ve it! Thanks for all your poems..
Thanks Melva for reading. I enjoyed yours so much!
What a great story, and told so engagingly. It’s been great sharing time and pie s this summer. Hope we’ll meet sometime.
Thanks Nancy! I’ve had a grand time reading yours. Yes to meeting sometime!

Loved reading your work, Linda, and yes to meeting sometime!
LOL!
The Ectomies have evolved into words 🙂
the humor you are able to bring to a serious event is enviable
Thank you, Gaby. got me through hard times!
Your poems have such great balance. This one balances tone and tells a personal story. Great writing this month
Thanks Shaun! This is a great community of writers. I read your wonderful poems and others and caught a fire to reach for the stars.
Well done. Not only did it make me laugh but reminded me of my recent surgery prep. I told them that I’d have to be in the company of Mary if the test came back positive, but it seems for some humor is a lost art.
lol…we can do surgery together! Hope all is well!
