In My Own Little Corner
The mouse ran up the clock
As Humpty Dumpty fell
And the cow jumped over Mr. McGregor’s carrots.
Beneath the white-curtained window of my bedroom.
Charlotte spun a web
In the Secret Garden
And Ferdinand the Bull won the Grand National Steeplechase.
Around the pine table centered on my woven rag rug.
Margaret increased her bust
in Laura’s Little House
As the White Rabbit scurried past to whitewash a fence.
Across my pink-skirted canopy bed.

We all evolved from somewhere, didn’t we? Love the stories interwoven with your bedroom.
Such good memories. I’m so happy my parents read to me.
love this. so creative and relatable.
Thank you!
I just finished dusting off 8 boxloads of favorite picture books and imagining the pleasure of reading them to future children, so your poem hit me hard.
oh! I have saved my favorites too.
I love that the last line in each stanza is grounded in your childhood bedroom. So sweet.
