Waxing Negligent
I always fall asleep on lunar eclipses: I never know when
to go out and look to the night sky unless I’m told.
Eve by eve, I don’t rehearse lunar phases,
sounding them out like nursery rhymes.
Crescent to crescent, I can’t recite their full names.
Not the twelve for astrology, that’s easy.
No, the ones from the mouths of our ancestors:
Wolf Moon and Flower Moon and Harvest Moon.
The moon’s always somewhere. I trust it enough
that I only sporadically check in.

I love this. Wolf moon, Flower moon….
Thank you.
Some of my favorite people honor those full names! 😉
Great poem Tabitha!
Thanks. I’m so happy you enjoyed it!
I love trusting the moon
Do we have much other choice? 😉
I can empathize with this poem, I always miss cool moon phases, but I love looking at the night sky. Your title is fabulous!
My father used to give me a head’s up on moon stuff! I think cause he read the paper daily.
The title came easily, but then I wanted to change it. We can thank my boyfriend for saying it needed to stay. <3
Thanks for the comment — glad it struck a chord.
I really enjoyed this turn to the end!
Thank you!
So fun to hear everyone’s thoughts: The end was originally the beginning!
Felt better to switch those stanzas.
Tabitha – The title is so clever and carried through beautifully in the lines. “The moon’s always somewhere.” – great line.
I appreciate these thoughts so very much. <3
It was a poem with a certain message that I know I have tried to write time and again.
Be well!
Love this poem and how you land the poem:
The moon’s always somewhere. I trust it enough
that I only sporadically check in.
Thank you so very much. Those trusting relationships are so nice to have!
It’s a great subject to write about! So confessional. Every one else has already said the same things I was thinking 😉
🥰📚🙌 thank you!
Just going to second Jerielle’s comment: everyone else has said what I was thinking too. It’s a beautiful work.
Appreciate you!🥰📚🙌
