What Would Our Daughter Say?
If Sis knew we were feeding the cats at all times of day
and never playing with them
About using the dictionary when we play Scrabble
She reads instructions and follows rules
She’d say, “Thank you for cooking vegetables!”
and that we make too much noise when we chew
About my wearing threadbare and baggy pants
Her clothes are contemporary–and fit
About my not listening to people
and walking away while others are still talking
About not being good stewards of our money
She started an IRA for her borther
About not planning a proper vacation
She organized our first trip in years
About not making neighborhood friends
Her network is international
About my writing a poem about her

What a fantastic spectrum of feelings! I love reading this.
Cats and Scrabble!
I like the honesty here, and the inclusion of how we compare ourselves some times to loved ones.
And I hope you had a nice vacation with more of your own to create in the future. 🙂
Funny!
Love this, Gaby! I often ask the same….. regarding my NY dwelling, Ivy League graduate, Yoga practicing, suit and tie wearing, wiser than his Mama son of mine! “What does he think of me, writing poetry and crocheting sloths?” ….. and how about “driving that 1992 Honda Accord, covered in bird poop?”….. enjoyed this poem so much✨
Gaby, I wonder, now, what your sister thought if she read this, or what she will say when she does?
awesome writing… i think your sister would be proud being thought of so fondly… differences, that’s what makes us all unique… have a great day!
Gaby – You’re becoming a master at these comparisons! One of the first things my sister said when I started writing was not to write about her. So, of course, I did!
I like all the dances around each other.
Sometimes I think we want our children’s approval more than they want ours!!
I so enjoy imagining what those close to me think about this or that—-not that I would change for them . . .
