ECLIPSE DAY
On eclipse day we turn toward darkness
On eclipse day darkness transforms
From deadend to portal
On eclipse day darkness frees us
To speak to strangers
To cheer loudly
We look up at the sky
Eyes protected
Yearning for the rekindling of light
In the totality darkness
We feel electrical charges
Hear a universal song
And then It’s light again
But the faint vibration
Lingers,
And barely-heard notes
Float on the wind.

Lovely! The repetition adds much to the flow. I especially enjoyed the images of “darkness frees us to speak to strangers” and “we . . . Hear a universal song.” Ending is golden.
I love how you bring us up to a place of:
“Yearning for the rekindling of light
In the totality darkness” and how you bounce us large into feeling electrical charges and then we
“Hear a universal song”
It reminds me of how that whole experience pulled everyone together for those few brief moments….and that connection gave us an unexpected big thing, which was not only the light. This is a really lovely poem that captures a lot! Thank you!
