Twilight Tanka
peaceful working day
liminal moments in time
afternoon is now complete
now elegant stars begin
talking to us in whispers
the pale moon floats west
rouge lavender sky glowing
each root knows fresh soil
everything points to the sun
simple evenings in between

Gorgeous, Coleman. “each root knows fresh soil/
everything points to the sun” – such a great observation. Has me looking forward to the day.
I love your double tanka. It feels like it was written in the old days of China or Japan.
each line is a poem
and all together
they come into themselves
Love these ethereal tanka, my favorite line might just be “now elegant stars begin/talking to us in whispers”
hearty second on Jim. every line is a poem and rolls into the next, and all together work as one. my favorite line is “each root knows fresh soil”. if only I were so dumb. or intelligent.
is mother nature intelligent? what would the Chinese masters say?
(I know this is a tanka)
Stars talking to us in whispers—delicious.
Love “elegant stars” and “rouge lavender sky”. This one played like sped up time lapse video in my mind. Beautiful.
I just finished reading Larry’s first draft of his back to the land memoir. Your poem so relates.
Lovely images- liked the double tanka!
I like the possibilities implied in the closing “in between.”
absolutely adore:
each root knows fresh soil
Your language is as beautiful as the twilight you describe. I loved “rouge lavender sky glowing.” Everything about this poem is lovely!
