plantanimal
yes, the volume of non-living things is greater,
but the variety of kinds of
living things is greater yet
and when non-living and living interact
in nature so freely, so frequently,
the possible combinations near infinity
we eat animals that
had been living
we eat plants that
had been living
this is how we live,
this symbiotic exchange–
we give, we take,
they give, they take,
seems fair, plus
I can’t change this
reality, this
necessity
this is how things
actually work
here–like it or not
and now, I think
I understand what
I must do–
I will make
a BLT

I love how this poem dwells on something so innate and arrives at such an ordinary conclusion. It really shows how the poet’s mind is at work is something even so simple as making a sandwich. Well done!
That is kind and encouraging, Ariana. Thank you so much.
Agree with Ariana and love how you e d with a BLT.
Thank you, Linda–I am grateful.
To echo Linda’s and Ariana’s sentiments, I, too enjoy the ending! I also love how you describe this process as “symbiotic exchange.”
Thank you so much, Katrina! I feel encouraged!
