Marble Stones
Standing amongst the marble stones
Pondering mortality.
My grandparents are here,
Aunts and uncles,
Many cousins.
Now there are more of my remembered kin here
Than those who still take breath.
These are my people.
Strange to feel more kinship
With the dead
Than the living.
To them I belong
And with them
I will someday be.

Quietly powerful
Yes. This.
There is something comforting about the idea of having them all in one location. My people are scattered everywhere.
I like the tone of sad acceptance of our transient nature in this one.
Very well done!
The marble stones ground you and your family. Mine are all scattered by cremation but still live in my heart.
