12
three blackbirds land
on the young volunteer
maple that now dapples
my view of the dock
yellow iris rhizomes continue
their advance along the contour
of the lake now spread among
the boats’ grassy mooring perch
these plants mark my days
and years of observation
wings flap birds fly up
tender tree branches sway
