Weight
Open sesame?
You can’t do that here.
Not so close to the starship,
the wild huckleberry, smooth sailing
lifestyle enjoyed by those born
with a zest for life and a silver spoon.
Talk again?
You can’t do that here.
Not without looking a little
strange, connecting to the great
beyond to commune with Ancestors who
surrendered their time to sweeten yours.
surrendered their time to sweeten yours.

I like the question, followed by the no, followed by the refusal to abide. Nice writing, Tabitha.
Enjoyed the questions and the shape of this poem!
Love how this poem builds and how the title adds another layer to the story!
Really love the form of this and the imagery in the first stanza in particular
I love the form and repetition of that response of “You can’t do that here.” It begs us to consider why, which I love
