Circle March
An abuser, veins on chemical fire
scorches out on a gurney.
A father figure slaps the future
out of a victim who will later
scorch out on a gurney.
A spinster’s ruler splits the knuckles
of a future twisted father figure
because this hurts me more than you.
And so on. And so on.
Pilgrim dunking parties, tribal extinctions,
racial ghettos, persecutions,
and the feel-good promise of Manifest Destiny.
Being human, we create truths
that conform to the twisted
natures we possess.

A much-needed exploration of the contortion of leadership, the use of force to create authority, and so much more.
Incredibly wrought with such an eye for line and phrase.
Adore the last four lines with their truth, and that “scorch out on a gurney” refrain.
Bravo.
I think of a scene from an American version _Run Lola Run_..
Today’s ills have very deep roots. Thank you for illustrating this reality so well.
Bernard what a thinker you are. The most intellectual poet here I think, such an Olympian perspective.
😞 too true and the walk backwards is done well
