All Day I Wish
Behind fading moon
mist settles down like a cat,
we sleep in coolness
Good morning Robin
could you come into my house
and catch my last dream
Summer flu
keeps me off riding mower:
lush clover for honeybees
midsummer malaise
vacation bible school students
run through God’s sprinkler
A truce with the Skunks,
still you must lecture a teen
who’s Squealing his wheels
All day I wish
it would have been different
until the evening breeze
At night I wonder
why so many are sleeping
under my pillow

Adore this, Jim.
the second stanza, for some reason, seems particularly beautiful.
Such a beautiful summer – loved the last stanza and the form did its job!
Beautiful poem.
Love:
this image: mist settles down like a cat
the rhythm in these lines: lush clover for honeybees/midsummer malaise
the humor here: A truce with the Skunks,
This is a series of 7 haiku
menat to approximate a Buddhist liturgy of the hours.
The prayers start before dawn
and go until after dark.
Such a cool concept that you’ve pulled off so very well. Love the vacation Bible students running through God’s sprinkler. A vivid collection.
meant not “menat”
Love this!
The last stanza is wonderful and quotable.
