June Morning’s Gems
The parula’s notes cascade
up the scale as if seeking
a loft where birdsong gems rest,
facets of every color
bathing in June’s sunshine—wren’s
golden tones, robin’s ruby
cheer, song sparrow’s emerald trills.

“song sparrow’s emerald trills.”
Gorgeous!
Beautifully rendered, sound and sight.
This poem sings. Thanks for introducing me to the parula!
Love this, Nancy! You are a wonderful nature poet.
You capture well the way my heart soars with bird song.
You know I love those birds! All the colors of sound!
As Sylvia says, all the colors of sound! So lovely.
Yes, giving the sounds colors is what makes this poem.
Love all the bird imagery. I wasn’t familiar with the parula, so of course I looked it up and listened to its songs.
So joyful!
Nancy! I. Really love this poems! I, too, am a year-round bird watcher, feeder, lover, putting out suet all winter and seed in warmer months. Thus so many wonderful sights to note. An accomplished poem! Thank you for sharing. A keeper for me,
this read as a painting for me. so very beautiful!
