My mammy kept a China cabinet
Full of all her figurines
Trinkets from her mother
Pieces from my pappy’s sister

Some from occupied Japan
A set of white elephants with
Gilded gold accents on them
A pink dog; a little fragile cow

Every single piece a memory
Woven from glass and set there
On a shelf to admire and remember
The ones who left them behind

A heart is like a China cabinet
Holding tight to memories of all
The people I have ever loved
Also made of glass, spun and so
So fragile, it could break

And it has

Many times

Always pieced back together
