Early Marriage
I was drawn to the clan
coming from the same soil
drawn to the goodness,
the steadfastness. These
people could be relied on.
Doubting my own strength,
I thought it an act of self-
preservation, a way
of making my way in the world.
Now I look at the child
who was me, with compassion,
with love, knowing all that
would follow.

❤️ I have a similar story. I wish I could hug that girl. Beautiful poem.
Brave and well-done, Pat.
Wonderful perspective!
Lovely, Pat! Those first two lines really set the tone and scene.
I love how time compresses and then expands so thoughtfully at the end
