The Defense Rests
Remnants of your lawyer self
present a case to my heart.
Part of the suit is still there.
accented by leather shoes.
But jeans and no tie spell song.
No matter how tight you grasp
poems in those shaking hands,
the closing argument sings.

Love how the reading of poems causes the hands to shake — happens to me every time. This poem sings!
All of this is a marvel. I love how straightforward it is and the beauty in the last three lines.
This poem presents a case to my heart! From case to song, this poem does its work.
Very well done, Roberta – lots of punch packed into a few lines that carry the lawerly things from start to finish.
Such a tight poem! Well done.
Yes it does, Roberta. You are a troubadour.
Agree with Bill, this poem sings!

jeans and no tie spell song.
Love how the subject’s identity can’t be suppressed- we are who we are. By the way, I enjoyed your reading so much Wednesday!
Thank you! What a great venue!
There’s nothing like the thrill of being swept up in a poem! Great depiction!
