Teach Others and Encourage Them
“You may never have to experience mega hard times
yourself…teach others and encourage them…someone somewhere
over the next thousand years, that knowledge will matter.”
Carol Deppe
Peruse the old books
like your life depends on it
and it surely does.
Not necessarily for
taking out and applying
to your everyday
research or your own garden.
Each thing you can learn
each day matters to someone.
Share it, it will someday bloom.

The form amplifies the message tenfold. This is great, Coleman.
Thanks H.A. I’m gonna work that other one a little bit more.
love tanka here
Thank you sir.
Yeah I think it comes through, love me some deppe….pulled that quote right off the fridge 🙂
The wisdom in this tanka is monumental even as the poem is minimal.
Good advice
Necessary advice and a perfect use of form
Can only echo others. Wonderful form, wonderful message. Your talent abounds.
What a treat. This could’ve felt heavy-handed, but it is not that at all!
Thank you for this! So many great form poems.
Tabitha, I try to write in this form with an ear toward the individual’s life and works and I think you are picking up on just how balanced Carol Depe is in my mind 😀
“Peruse the old books like your life depends on it.” Words to live by. I love this poem.
I really love this message Coleman! I think this is one of my favorite poems from you.
