Mama said…
mama said you can’t hurry love
mama said save it for the wedding night
mama said it fits like a glove
mama said don’t worry he won’t bite
mama said talk it out, don’t let anger brew
mama said go easy on yourself
mama said let your words be kind
mama said bring your light into the world
mama said live your truth
mama was the caregiver, kept the peace, the bond that kept us all together.
(inspired by B Elizabeth Beck’s prompt last night)

Great stuff. I can imagine this as part of a series in which each family member speaks. It reminds me of Lou Reed, who has a whole series of _____ Says poems: “Lisa Says,” “Stephanie Says,” “Caroline Says I,” “Caroline Says II,” and “Candy Says.”
Thanks! Great idea!
You had a wise momma 🙂
I love the repetition listing. Tom posts a good idea.
Very nice, Linda! Do you mind if I steal the prompt???
No not at all- she said write about how a song brings back memories to a time, place, or person. That Motown song by the Supremes brought back my mama.
I love the turns this piece takes–and the inspiration song, which had an almost sorrowful tone to it to me.
Thanks Shaun!
