The Past is a Well
“The more you try to remember, the more comes
up…[the past is a well]…down deep in your memory.”
Eudora Welty
Pleasant dreaming day
lifting words onto the page.
A curtain remembers
now how to dim the lightning.
Taking a page from the well
telling, selling and
reaching back into herself.
Everybody is
employed by the universe;
Stars, out standing in their field.
[deep is the well of the past]
Thomas Mann

This became my poem starter for today. Thank you, Coleman!
<3 noted that! Great work to you both.
Damn, you are on fire lately. What I took from this is that memory requires management and by “dimming the light” you can process and filter the depths of your memory to be useful. The quotes are killer as well, GREAT WRITE!
I love “Everybody is / employed by the universe; So true
yes to: Stars, out standing in their field.
and
love how you broke out from standing.
To a wonderful place this brings me…I feel it takes place in a big space… “Everybody is employed by the universe;”–love this and how it makes me think about where poems come from.
