The Bloom of my Discontent
Big squash blooms need pollination–
a little toothbrush to stir them up.
A firm shake is fine once a week
for a tomato plant or pepper.
A little toothbrush to stir them up.
You gotta expand the repertoire
for a tomato plant or pepper.
Your body will know it later.
You gotta expand the repertoire.
Miss one morning round of allergy meds–
Your body will know it later,
loyal to labor leaves your throat squashed.
If only this was my sensitivity’s solution:
a firm shake is fine once a week.
But it’s spring, bringing more inflammation and
big squash blooms need pollination.

The squash clearly do not appreciate your dedication to their growth.
Now excuse me while I go take my own allergy medication I forgot 😂
Rofl.
What a perfect response!!
I’m suspecting that all these blooms are male. That makes my effort pointless. 😢
**I’m Learning!!**
And
😭Burpee, why have you forsaken me!??
“Loyal to labor leaves your throat squashed” is a fabulous summation phrase here!
Hope you feel better and that the squash gives you a happy reward!
Awwww, thank you so very much, dear friend!
I’m delighted at how quickly I’ve recovered from most of my symptoms. It’s been rewarding to take it slower, though more mindful rest and care might still be called for.
Through rain, snow, and allergies, the gardener will tend the squash blossoms! Enjoying your poems this months, Tabitha!
Thank you!!
That means the world.
Gardening and poetry have a lot in common– you learn from your mistakes!
I admire gardeners for their work ethic, the loving care they devote to the things they’re going, and their willingness to get down in the dirt. Perfect training for a poet, I’d say.

This is great, Tabitha. Good luck with the pollen!
Great title…drew me right in!
I love your use of the form here! It works-especailly the final couplet, and the poem reads so visually.
Thanks! I wanted to try a pantoum, especially after poets here and a local poet started to show their excellent examples.
I also needed to write about pollinating the squash (it’s too funny).
Things worked just right.
Wow! Great poem. Keep on blooming!
