Chewing on War
Chewing on War:
The scorch of the tar
on unguarded soles and toes
Unforgivable
The steam, like ribbons streaming
The oily air ruined
What to keep and save
while paving the peaceful way
is the question now
The fourth turning is today
What do we save for keeping?

You capture the ache and uncertainty of living through history’s hinge moments. The tactile imagery makes the larger theme feel urgent and real. I keep rereading “What to keep and save / while paving the peaceful way”—such a timely meditation.
Thank you so much for your input and for reading my poems! I appreciate you!
Love the linework of this piece: “Unforgivable/The steam, like ribbons streaming/The oily air…”
