half
yesterday I rhymed
saw patterned lines as comfort
offering direction
solid solace in old rhythms
today the singalong ball bounced right off the screen
it was rolling down the driveway
last I saw
no energy to chase after it
today I am the unmade bed
a grilled cheese sandwich half eaten
second cup of tepid coffee
unread correspondence
today it is enough
to untangle a thought or two
like neglected necklace chains scratching around the junk drawer of my mind
picking at nots, impatient

I enjoy how you describe how each day has its own energy—so true. And I see what you did there: picking at “nots” —Nice!
“today I am the unmade bed
a grilled cheese sandwich half eaten
second cup of tepid coffee
unread correspondence”
YES!
I agree with Bud and Sylvia. Some days flow better than others, and this poem describes it in vivid, relatable imagery. Thank you, Leah, I needed this today
I love “today it is enough/to untangle a thought or two/like neglected necklace chains”
You word this feeling artfully.
Another lovely, openly expressed perception.
These two lines popped and stuck:
“singalong ball bounced right off the screen/it was rolling down the driveway/last I saw”
Gave me a visual that made me chuckle and nod in understanding with the lack of energy to chase after it.
“around the junk drawer of my mind” (sheesh what a great visual analogy)
It is okay to sit in days like this! And what a clever poem that came from it 🙂
