We Leave for Newark
We leave for Newark tomorrow
at four, and I say hello to Kentucky
the same morning: Pack my bag
for three nights in Lexington, no room
for the garden on any airline,
so my love will water
the mint, the lemonbalm,
the mint, the lemonbalm,
wildflowers and peonies
and their pals up front.
Only if it stays hot and dry.
and their pals up front.
Only if it stays hot and dry.
There’s some chance of rain.
We leave for Newark tomorrow
and I take what I need but can’t bring
my Tenderheart, my Hallmark,
my Vanguard and yet:
I can not wait to fly.

This touches on such a truth — I hate leaving my garden in summer, trusting it will be okay without my hovering. Becomes a part of you. Safe travels!
It certainly does! Thank you on the travel blessings.
I love the layers in this piece and the movement of “and I take what I need but can’t bring/my Tenderheart…”
📚💓 thank you!
The garden will keep itself company until you return
Yes. Won’t be gone long!
Thank you for another great LexPoMo year!
May your garden thrive!
I take what I need but can’t bring
my Tenderheart, my Hallmark,
my Vanguard and yet:
I can not wait to fly.
The dichomoty, the “push-me/pull-you” of longing for two places at once.
This poem so aptly expresses your longing. Thank you for sharing it.
