Dear Forsythia
You butter my bones
Sense me silly with your riot
of lemony limbs
Your canary wings taking flight
that wildness of freedom
What a heavy burden to carry
the sun’s yellow lust

Wonderful apostrophe full of color
Thank you so much, River.! I’ve been enjoying your work this June.
Concise and full of life! I really love this one
Wonderful entry into a delightful foray into color and lightness/heaviness.
This is gorgeous, Sylvia. Forsythia is one of my early memories from the first house I lived in. Thanks for bringing it abck to me today!
Such a luminous poem. I love the visuals, the alliteration, and the depth of that opening line- “You butter my bones.”
Lovely, and every statement is strong enough to stand as its own poem. But terrific together.
I love, love, love this poem—which lovingly conjures pictures of Forsythia blooming around here !! so wonderful!
You have painted beautiful imagery in this poem.
