I remember my teenaged son (who has always been fascenated by language) telling me he discovered that a “faggot” was originally a bundle of sticks used for firewood or kindling. He was already familiar with the current use of the word. Then, my master punster said, “Does this mean flaming faggots are really hot?” Yes, Seth, indeed they are — always and every day, not just in June. 😎
