adagio
I imagine watching corn grow in summer
(an awful lot of squeaking)
and as I approach 60
and 1996 seems like last year
I’d rather watch the grass grow
let my grandsons run in slow motion on the freshly mowed backyard
let their two- and four-year-old baby faces stay soft a few years more
stop the sun right there, behind the treetops, golden

Oh, Sue, what a lovely poem! Adore the leisure reflected in the title (and the sun!) “and 1996 seems like last year” – yes! Stunning last line.
adagio
your poetic sentiment
is just right.
I feel a kinship.
I love the balance and rhythm of this poem so much
Lovely commentary on the wiles of time. (Mine are 3 and 5 years old!)
A perfect dance to a joyful tune.
Masterful title gracefully leads into fluid musical rhythm dancing the reader into a wish for time to slow in this moment. Reading this poem aloud emphasizes the adagio of the title. Rings true, Sue
(an awful lot of squeaking)
Well, yes! This is perfection.
