Dragonflies
Dragonflies
know no boundaries
as they land soft on my shoulder,
touch down in my hair,
rest momentarily at my feet.
Their elegant dance
surrounds me this summer day
in the sultry heat as if they rejoice
in rising temperatures
absorbing moisture in a flutter and spin.
Iridescent wings dappled in green and blue
stretch wide across the horizon
dripping sweetness and grace
along the ridge, hover at mid-morning
summoning a procession of followers.

They are such majestic little creatures. Your poem highlights this well. Great write! I especially love this line:
“absorbing moisture in a flutter and spin.”
Thank you for your validation. They really are majestic.
Virginia, I enjoyed your poem. Dragonflies are interesting to watch but sometimes drive me crazy.
Me too!
Thank you.

This poem has such lightness and grace, like the dragonflies. Love the “flutter and spin” line as well.
Thank you for seeing the lightness and grace.
This is beautiful! I don’t know why I was always afraid of dragonflies as a child. They are amazing. I loved “as if they rejoice/in rising temperatures”

Thank you, Virginia Lee, for this elegant poem “dripping sweetness and grace.” It dances with lightness of being as do dragonflies. My fondness for these resilient friends (my spirit animal) is matched by your writing
Thank you for such a validating comment and for sharing that the dragonfly is your spirit animal. A beautiful creature.
While I, personally, am ambivolent about these creatures, your poem is lovely. And those being do seem to like really hot weather.
Thank you for your kind comment. They really need to absorb the heat of the sun in order to thrive.
I could hear them buzzing about and along with “Iridescent wings dappled in green and blue/stretch wide across the horizon” I could see them quite vividly. Beautifully written, Virginia!
