Fading
I am starting to wonder who you are
the days you are expressionless
slumped with arms waving randomly
toward the food you cannot convey to your mouth
they have dressed you in someone else’s
things plucked from the laundry, a college tee
white winter sweatpants though it’s summer
you seem not to feel a thing
not the spilled drink soaking your clothes
not my goodbye touch on your shoulder

Poignant, Linda. The couplets and detail really convey the caring and sadness.
Sigh. What Mary said.
Beautiful sadness in this poem, beautifully rendered.
I’m sorry.
Left me with a catch in my throat. What a remarkable example of “show, don’t tell.” Thank you!

every stanza a telling detail
I’m drawn in and in the moment with you here.
