I read and re-read Kevin. These few words present a powerful image “my mother’s face…”
Thanks John!
Such a gorgeous image presented here. So powerful! This is a gem! I absolutely love it!
Thanks Winter! I’m enjoying your haiku this month!
Arresting and evocative connections
Thanks Shaun!
swans are exquisite, the reference to Swan Lake reminds me that swans can bite, yet the memory is fading
Yes they can, Gaby..,
your mother, lovely and present
Thanks for reading and commenting, Laverne. Your piece about your mother today was very fine.
Such a sweet, sensitive expression of beauty and love.
Thanks Virginia!
Such a “small” haiku but it contains so much. The subtle nod to Swan Lake is ingenious.
Thanks Linda!
Brilliant
Thanks Carole!
Took my breath, especially that last line, wasn’t expecting that. Brilliant!
Music to my ears, Pam! Thank you.
Master of the haiku!
Thanks Linda! You are very kind.
That’s brilliant! Arthur Sze-ish
Thanks Mike! I’m just beginning to read him now. Interesting poet, a little challenging for me so far…
Lady of the lake – love swans and lakes and you’re getting punch with the punctuation in your short poems!
Thanks Sylvia! The punctuation is always a conundrum for me. Haiku tradition says to use none at all but that doesn’t quite feel right in my case. I figure dashes, ellipses etc. help convey rhythms, even meanings, so why not use them?
Wow!! Yeah today was mother’s day on the Po……this is so beautiful………..
Love it. Really brought
Rubén Darios poem, el Cisne to mind.
Thanks Coleman!
Btw I wrote this as part of your craft talk at the Sanctuary last month. Very helpful.
❤️
Daaaaamn.
This is what a haiku looks and feels like, sir. Senryu, or whatever you choose to call this one!!
Thanks Joseph! I guess this is a sort of hybrid of the two forms—although, unlike Coleman, I don’t pay much attention to the rules of such things. I do me…
😆 lol….love it !!!!!
😉
What a wonderful poem!
Thanks Nettie!
Kevin, so evocative. The music came into my awareness right away.
Thanks Larry!
Lovely work – I love the surprise ending.
Thanks Nancy!
The “swan” evokes those ancient ballads, and the poet’s mother was featured in one, no doubt!
Beautiful and haunting, Kevin.
