What Will You Do as the World Ends?
The world burns, hatred flourishes
And people shop at Kroger
Wars are waged, children die
And people shop at Kroger
Ebola spreads, measles too
And people shop at Kroger
Immigrants caged, disinformation waged
And people shop at Kroger
Global warming, fear and loathing
And people shop at Kroger

And this time Kroger didn’t change its name! Good one.
I like your strict couplet structure. Your choice of situations and details to make a very valuable point and ironic point. The repeated refrain especially captures the tensions between the some of the world’s most serious truths right now and our practical lack of motivation and agency from within so desirable a cage to have much effect. So well done. Like an Old Testament prophet. And with such an economy of words.
Kroger visits seem to be the only normal activity left for us
…well done
..
You captured this very well, Louise. Sometimes, the truth hurts.
