A Spring of Unrest
Yesterday marked the first day of summer, even though in my mind, summer has been here for a month. This short poem is a reflection of the spring we hopefully left behind.
A breeze blowing in the trees
clouds floating across the sky
hate and war around the world
how did we get here and why.

the dissonance between serene nature and chaotic humanity lingers. the rhyme underscores the question
Yes, and thank you for reading and commenting, Gaby.
Good contrast, John. Love the question posed at the end.
Thank you, Pam!
Lovely, John! I tried to hang onto spring as well! I’m glad we always have nature to counter that ugliness.
Yes, and thank you, Sylvia!
The beauty of nature juxtaposes well against the ugliness of humanity. Though perhaps the question stands to contradict the first impression, implying that we aren’t all so bad. We just need a guiding hand. So much being said here. Well done, John!
Yes, great take on the poem, Eric. Thanks for reading and your thoughts.
The juxtaposition is perfect. “clouds floating across the sky” captures the emotions of this “spring”, while “how did we get here and why” echoes as a refrain in so many of us.
Yes, it does. Thank you, Michele!
You ask such critical questions and provide a sense of hope for the future. A poem of few words with a lot of meaning.
Thank you for the kind comments, Virginia!
Why, indeed. Enviable craft in this concise, meaningful poem, John.
