Satori
How did it take
this much of my life
for me to see that
what I wanted most
was the quiet? Not
silence—that’s
something else—
but the first faint
birdsong, early
in the morning,
water burbling
in the Mr. Coffee,
the gentle sizzle
of little sausages
in the pan?

me too
captures the feeling in sensory impressions
The funny thing is, I’m 66 and just realized it…
Wow! Such an important distinction – the quiet vs the silence, I had never thought of it so clearly, thank you❤️
Yessss….”the first faint/birdsong, early/in the morning,water burbling/in the Mr. Coffee,’
Thanks Pam!
Oh, this is a state to aspire to, quietness. So well rendered, love the examples.
Thanks Bill!
Oh yes, the quiet. And now I want some of those “little sausages in the pan.”
Just had some this morning, Karen. Treat yourself!
I’m getting there. . .
❤️
The thin form of this poem works so well with the wonderful words – I hear that gentle sizzle!
Thanks Nancy!
I have been quiet so as not to offend…..however Kevin’s promise of a peach cobbler. Has…well ya know…
Beautiful poem sir.
Yes, love love….its the quiet,–different than silence. And the attention.
” what does the cold charge for its receding…….only attention.”
Love this satori ❤️
You just said it for the cobbler, Coleman! Now I know what your price is 😏
😆
That dance of sensation! I’ve the word burble.
❤️
Every word counts in this awakening to what matters
Thanks!
Love the differentiating between quiet and silence. They are not the same, and you just won the debate!
Thanks, Sylvia! Indeed there’s a big difference. One soothes, the other unnerves.
Hope our feet pounding above don’t mar the quiet.
Not at all, Joe. It’s all part of the pleasant ambiance.
Enlightenment as delightful little noises!
Yes! Good to hear from you, Manny.
It gives the reader a new appreciation of what we hear in the silence!
Thanks Greg!
It’s perceptual, not intellectual. Nice write, Kevin!
Thanks Jeremy! I’m not an intellectual at all, ever. I’m a feeler more than a thinker.
Your poem says it all ♥️
Thanks so much!
