Tip the Scales
*”Mercy, pity, and peace, Are the world’s release.”
—William Blake
it’s true:
i may not bend the world,
but the world will not bend me
together we can tip the scales
from wasteland of dust-dry throat
to world of blossoming loveliness
wherein every plant receives
fair nurturing to thrive

Patti
Smith sings of her Blakean year.
walking with William can be…….
an adjustment.
❤️ right back at ya, Coleman. Since you are a poet’s poet, my poem is honored by your comments. Yes, Patti Smith sings: “So throw off your stupid cloak Embrace all that you fear For joy shall conquer all despair In my Blakean year.” Walking with William may not be for the faint of heart, yet it speaks to me, as creative impulse and imagination is far more valuable than material success
love the opening chiasmus
Oh Gaby, love your supportive encouragement. Grateful to be confirmed by such a proficient poet
I love this piece and the epigraph from Blake. Love “from wasteland of dust-dry throat/to world of blossoming loveliness”
Overjoyed you connected to this piece and its Blake epigraph. As one who consistently writes memorable lines, thank you for your comments, Shaun
