to tree roots
and soft earth
track
striding

anticipate
imprudent
steps
and
swiftly clutch
unsuspecting ankles
to keep
close
what
tries
to
dash
before dusk

Love the motion in this one.
I was getting a sense of that when you chose the word “clutch,” a moment in an intoxicatingly complex poem I most loved!
Joseph Allen Nichols, you are too kind. Thank you for reading and for your encouragement.
I wasn’t sure if the movement translated in this one. I’m glad it did. Thank you!
It does!!!
