1:30 a.m. Prayer
“The beginning is always there.
It is never over.”
I thought… (as I too often do)
was under the assumption… (as poets do)
that we were supposed to be… (as I act)
platonic— (…)
that I was supposed to be… (less)
not what I feel/am… (pretending)
but what you need/are…
(thinking again)
only, tonight, you were… (are)
what I thought you were… (are)
and expected/hoped I… (am)
am. I am. And We are… (I Am)
Everything
We ever were.
(amen)

I really love this.
I’m glad 💙.
I didn’t cite the epigraph here:
They were the words of a Mayoruna Chieftain, as repeated on the “Unexplained, with Richard MacLean Smith” Podcast, S4:E4, “Always Already” (highly recommended).
Have written a few poems since listening to it Saturday. Forgot to cite, given the mid-night, mid-sleep writing on notepad.
exactly how 1:30 a.m. feels..
💙 definitely when it was! Between dream and dreaming!
Enjoyed this poem and liked the form.
Thank you, Linda!
Yes, interesting presentation! I agree with dustin – it has a late night/early morning aura. Haunting and heartfelt!
I really enjoyed this poem and how it used form
Ty, Shaun!
💙 thank ya, ma’am! I called someone else Sylvia this morning 🤦🏼♂️. Now I can say it rightly 😂
really like the counterpoint on:
platonic. (…)
also thanks for the heads up on “Always Already”
I’ll check it out
Ty, Jim! And no problem. It’s a great podcast, besides (like Unsolved Mysteries but with philosophical or sciences touchstones to supernatural stories. And very calming voice. That episode—technically a two parter—just hit me in the feels).
This is so hypnotic! Good work.
Ty Linda!
This is a real interesting form, and it really gives the whole thing a late-night, half-asleep quality. It’s just a very human and natural development of the speaker’s thoughts. Really great!
Ty, Jasmine 💙
I sometimes feel human 😂
That (…) like, crushed my soul, in a good way, if that makes sense.
Also, the form. You pull things off in your poetry that are consistently like, how does anyone think of that? I love it so much.
Hugs to you, friend.
Odd summer, but summer of changes that I hope will be prosperous for us both in the long run.
And thank you! That’a how I always fee reading Christopher’s stuff (especially this year). Big compliment and I’ll take it! 💙
This is 1:30 am in perfect description.
Beautiful. I LOVE it.
Ty, H. A.!
That had been approaching my routine bedtime but…this summer…that’s waking in the middle of the night. Glad you liked it
WoW Joseph – ditto on all the comments!
