5 Ways of Looking at 5 Orchid Blossoms on June 5th
I.
Church-candle white petals
speckled magenta
blossom up want-to-be-straight stem
II.
Flowers extend yellow tongues
at screened-out flies
III.
I need to dust lush beef-tongue leaves
IV.
An orchid is like a good book
intricate chapters bloom one after the other
fed by central idea
Chapter 5 captivates
Chapter 6 ready to open
V.
I’d never had an orchid before
never written 5 poems in 5 days
never written a “5 Ways of Looking at” poem

Nancy – Beautiful images here. Number III is fun to say aloud, slowly! Number IV is my favorite. Comparing anything to a good book gets me every time! Enjoying your work.
I’m no expert but III with its ‘dust lush’ is bound to fit in some esoteric definition of poetic expression. Your work is so interesting and full of surprises.

I love the way the ending undercuts the beginning.
Love the image of those “beef-tongue leaves.” I’ve seen those before.
