A Birthday Poem for Our Son
Who knew that our son would turn into the young man
who shopped for us during the pandemic
who plants sunflowers
and cleans the litter box
and invites me to Kentucky Native Café
to widen my circle of friends
and suggests I sit too close to the computer screen
and sang harmony with me at his sister’s wedding
and shows his friends more largesse than he can afford
and cooks for his girlfriend
and practices forbearance toward the elderly
and for whom alone the cat purrs?

Wonderful! That son of yours sounds like a keeper.
What a wonderful son!
And of course:
and for whom alone the cat purrs?
” for whom alone the cat purrs ”
Oh !
Wonderful poem, wonderful son.
I love the picture to accompany the ending. Beautiful poem, beautiful son!
Such a beautiful tribute to your son!
Sweet poem, loaded with specific details. If you choose to revise, my suggestion is to complicate the tone by adding worries, struggles, bad memories, scars etc. to the fond details you’ve already got.
Happy Birthday to him! A sweet guy, but then look at the wonderful parents!!!
the poem has a lot of love
Oh Gabby I have one too. Yours sounds so beautiful.
