An American Sentence
Out of my back pocket a poem limps, letter-frenzied, cowlicks to page.
(Note: An American Sentence is a variation on the haiku invented by Allen Ginsburg.)

Love your word choice in this, Pam! (And I miss having breakfast with you, too!)
Thanks, had my first shot for Shingrix vaccine, fatigue hit hard so I just knew I had to reach into my back pocket for a poem 🙂 I think of our group everyday at noon. I miss our morning breakfast/coffee/tea time!
Very interesting
Glad to hear it was of interest! Thanks!
I live “cowlicks” as a verb here, and the idea of the American Sentence
Thanks! I love making muscle-verbs.
A graceful American Sentence…hope your recovery is easy. Talk with your soon!
Thanks! I think I have a collection of Under the Influence of Vaccine poems going here! Conserve my energy.
Thanks for the footnote to the poem — which is quite intriquing and well done.
Thank you! And thanks to Pauletta Hansel for teaching The American Sentence!
Speaks volumes in only a few words. I want to steal that “cowlicks to page.”
Ahhh, Karen, the ultimate compliment!
I love how you use language, Pam!
Thanks Ellen!
I love Ginsburg’s words, too.
Me, too!
Lovely! Reminds me of real writers, always pulling tattered notes from pockets.
Thank you! Notes and napkins and bills…lots of words on these!
Came back here to say, I’m glad I didn’t miss this. Wonderful form.
Thank you!
