Bonne Chance (Degas 1899)
Four ballerinas
behind a fiery stage
stretching
tightened
tense
deft in the orange glow—
the graceful denouement
before the next century’s gift:
trenches, tanks, and mud.

Such a great idea for a poem. Great twist at the end.
This is amazing
I can see them, and the gut punch juxtaposition at the end is as graceful as ballerinas, a nimble dexterity. Loved this.
This is so vivid. That foretelling…that calm before the storm…capturing a moment and describing it so very well.
So vivid!
One of my favorite paintings, Bernard. You know the weed, orange glow is one of my favorite flowers. Your word choices here are excellent.
