Casting Rose Quartz Runes
A divination
Galdrabók guides wise Häxa
whispering secrets
A seer foretold death
plague & pestilence on wings
natural order
A seer foretold fire
brought forth from corruptions knee
all fall, san souci
A seer foretold storms
as Hecate cleansed dark forests
from humanity
A divination
quartz roses gathered sun stars
runes laid bare, decline

Hey good to see your poems once again. The fourth stanza really sticks out to me and not just because predicting storms is my job but the whole stanza depicts a scene that I recently witnessed hiking through the Sacramento Mountains, near Ruidoso NM, the wildfires there laid bare many of the mountainsides and peaks, hiking through it on our way down was not easy. The last line feel unfinished somehow, after “decline”, but otherwise it reads like an ancient prescient prophesy. What was your inspiration?
You are one of the poets I look forward to reading every year! This poem is certainly no exception to that!
Thank you for your kind words and comment. I can imagine that it would be a difficult and surreal experience to hike through. The last set is a nod and a wink to the solar minimum. Sun stars are a photographic method to give the sun an interesting compositional lens flare. So the idea was the rose quartz runes “gathered sun stars” as a metaphor for a divination of the suns temporary decline in activity. So the runes “laid bare” the prediction of decline. The overall inspiration is mostly dreams and picking pieces from my older poems to create a larger narrative of divination and relating them to current events. In a sense creating a world for my wiccan/occult based haiku. I’ll be sure to look for your work as well.
Thank you for the very kind words Philip. I’ll make sure to look for you work as we go forward.
Love the shape of the stanzas, the rhyme (knee & sans souci), and how rosy quartz is such a beautiful rock.
runes laid bare, decline. too apt.
