Cereal for Dinner
A bowl of cereal for dinner
Like being a kid again,
Skipping dinner and then sneaking a late night snack
Hey, but at least I ate.
There’s something about breakfast for dinner
It reminds me of my mom
She cooks it all the time,
But it also feels like we’re breaking the food rules
But we do it anyways
It makes it feel like the day isn’t about to end,
Like it’s just starting again
Man, I love cereal for dinner

Ah, the added sweetness of forbidden fruit! (or cereal, or pancakes, or donuts…)
As a single parent working 2 jobs, I made this at least once a week for my kids—sometimes pancakes or scrambled eggs, too. Now they are grown with their own families and continue what we called silly supper, find it comforting.
It’s been so long since I even had a bowl of cereal. This poem makes me miss that so much.
