CICADAS
At first a niggling buzz, wings
flicking through mountain air,
one, then another, and then
they are everywhere, you can’t
unsee them, can’t quiet the
steady roar
like the words you overheard,
those tiny arrows that lodged
lightly on your skin, burrowed
subtly deeper, deeper still until
they became the persistent bang
of your heart

I like the turn in the second verse and I really love how you ground the meaning of the poem deep in the heart.
I love that ending–it took my breath
I like the way you express the idea that you can’t “unsee” things or unhear them
Wow, I love how this built. Great turn.
